Wild Sweet Orange is a Birmingham, Alabama-based four-piece outfit. With a name like
Preston Lovinggood as the band's frontman, singer and songwriter, I think this group, is destined to produce some of the most charming, powerful music I've ever heard. Listening to their debut full-length record
We Have Cause To Be Uneasy, which was released this past Tuesday, I kept kicking myself for missing out on an opportunity to see them live recently.
Without losing its originality, the album is almost a reminder to the works of
Bright Eyes,
Sparklehorse, and maybe, a tad of
Death Cab for Cutie. The meaningful lyrics and thoughtful compositions reflect the efforts they've put into the years of making the album. I could honestly say every track is a favorite of mine. But, if I must choose one, I really enjoy the heartfelt "Seeing and Believing". Oh, and "House of Regret". Err.. "Land of No Return"? OK, that was harder than I thought.
We Have Cause To Be Uneasy is gentle, yet compelling and unpretentious. I feel like I had been reunited with an old album that's been misplaced or borrowed all this time. I think anyone with a prime taste in music (or who claimed to) will enjoy the album thoroughly.
