I heard this song on the radio on my way to work this morning err.. mid morning. It instantly reminds me of a cross between
The Bird and The Bee,
Feist and
Yael Naim. I jotted down the band name (yes, while I'm driving. I live on the edge. Literally.) and looked it up when I got in to the office. I was surprised and delighted to find out that
Obi Best is actually related to
The Bird and The Bee, which I loved.
Alex Lilly is the back-up singer for The Bird and The Bee and when she is not singing with them, she is busy putting together her whimsical pop effort under the name of
Obi Best. With the help from her Los Angeles-based friends,
Obi Best completed their debut album,
Capades, due out in a few weeks on August 25.
Capades is described as "a rich tapestry of piano, airy electronica, refined rock and panoramic beats deftly punctuated by bells and chirps and otherworldly sounds". I can't wait to listen to the rest of the album.
For now, please enjoy
Obi Best's delightful and chirpy, retro pop single:
