Excuse me while I'm about to combine an EP and a show review. It's not out of laziness, really, I just think my thoughts on the EP and the show are better combined.
The EP consists of eerily comforting, subdued love songs with no trace of pretense recorded live at Robinwood, his family’s cabin in the wilds of Elco, WI and at a live concert in his hometown.
Cory Chisel's vocal is gentle, yet bold and always confident. Before seeing
Cory Chisel & The Wandering Sons performed recently, my thoughts on
Cabin Ghosts could simply be summarized as "I liked it".
My feelings went up a notch after seeing him and
The Wandering Songs performed live at the Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles recently. The songs are even lovely live, especially with singer,
Adriel Harris' soft vocal moonlighted that of Cory's. From the time they took the stage to their last note, we were mesmerized. It was almost as if the whole venue was transported to a night, somewhere in a rural area. We forgot for a bit that we're in the city 'til the night ended and we're back in the always-congested, rarely-asleep metropolis.
