We started of the week with angst but nonetheless a hopeful note and resulted with a huge victory. A success story that doesn't come every decade. I'm referring to the presidential election, of course. So, I thought I'd close off the week with another success story within music. Although it is in a much smaller scale, it shares that basic value of hard work will lead you to success.
Many of you might be familiar with
Josiah Leming, a newcomer who made an appearance on Season 7 of American Idol. I don't watch American Idol but I was moved by his story;
Leming left his home in Morristown, TN, at age 17 to make it as a musician, hoping to find a way to help support the family he was leaving behind -- eight siblings (six of whom are adopted), an out-of-work stepfather, and a mother with terminal cancer.
Leming traveled around the Southeast playing open-mic nights in any club or coffeehouse that would have him, sleeping in his car and taking odd jobs to pay for food and gas, all the while dreaming about the album he would make one day. His appearance on American Idol landed him a manager who brought him to Warner Bros.
His full-length album will be out in early 2009. For now,
Leming is releasing a five-song sampler of tracks from the album
Angels Undercover. The will EP be sold digitally via iTunes and all participating digital retailers, as well as on CD via
Myspace and at his upcoming shows.
Josiah Leming's music is intense and honest.
Keane is a group that came to my mind when hearing his songs. There's a sincere emotion that you can't staged in his music and performance.
Leming said it best: "I can’t write about things I don’t feel. That’s just faking it and I want the music to be real. I can’t control what anyone thinks of it, but I can promise that it’s going to come from my heart."
